Carolyn Jacobson

     Carolyn (Johnson) Jacobson, age 84, of Avondale, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023, at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA. She was the spouse of the late Rune Jacobson, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Eric G. and Lou B. (Schmidt) Johnson.  

     Carolyn lived and worked in NYC before marrying Rune and settling in Upper Saddle River, NJ.

     While raising her family, Carolyn worked for many years at Metropolitan Sales in Upper Saddle River, NJ. She worked for 15 years as a secretary for the Village of Ridgewood Police Department in Ridgewood, NJ before retiring.  When her daughters were growing up, Carolyn was active as a Girl Scout troop leader and soccer mom.  She cheered on her daughters as they participated on sports teams, and in marching band and color guard.  She was very socially connected and was always willing to pitch in and lend a hand to anyone in need. She was the treasurer of her garden club, and she enjoyed playing cards and board games.  Her favorite was Mahjong with friends in the Brittany Hills Community. She also enjoyed knitting hats for newborns at local hospitals. She actively supported the Tunnels to Towers Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her favorite evening shows were Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and she loved watching football.

     Carolyn will be best remembered and most loved for making delicious meals for her family.  Her specialties were swedish meatballs, coffee bread, lasagna, and roasts on Sundays.

     Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Karin Topp (Duane) of Upper Saddle River, NJ, Linda Jacobson (Mark) of Oxford, PA, and Christina McKenzie (Glenn) of Landenberg, PA. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jack, Kristin, Kathryn, Erik, and Kassandra; and seven great-grandchildren, Alexander, Zachary, Eleanor, Vincent, Ryan, Annie, and Penelope.  In addition to her parents and her husband, Carolyn was predeceased by her sister, Evelyn Connor.   

     A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 11:00AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 96 E. Allendale Road, Saddle River, NJ 07458. Interment will be held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery immediately following the service.
