David Lindsay Myers

David Lindsay Myers, age 85, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, passed away in his home after a short illness on August 25, 2026. He was the husband of Susan B. Myers, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Harrisburg, PA, he was a son of the late David Mingle Myers and the late Elizabeth Lindsay Myers.

Dave grew up in the close-knit, small town of Newport, PA, on the banks of the Juniata River. He helped in the family businesses and enjoyed weekends and tennis at Hillhome, the family retreat in the hills above town. Following the example of his father, for high school, Dave attended The Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA. Dave went on to attend his beloved Brown University. After graduation, Dave spent several years in New York City, working in the credit department of a major NYC bank, Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. Following his dream, Dave went back to school and earned a juris doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, PA.

His education and work experience set the stage for his legal career. In 1972, Dave joined the Kennett Square law firm, Larmore Scarlett. Through the years, when asked what type of law he practiced, Dave would modestly reply, “a small-town general practice.” In fact, Dave was a highly respected attorney, pillar of the community, and civic leader. Dave generously gave his time and expertise to serve on the boards or be a member of numerous charitable and civic organizations – most notably, President of the Southern Chester County Medical Center, Brandywine Red Clay Alliance, Kennett Senior Center, Kennett Area Community Service, Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board, and the Kennett Square Planning Commission. In 1995, in honor of his commitment to the community, the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce recognized Dave as Outstanding Citizen of the Year.

Beyond the above commitments, Dave had many defining interests and pursuits. His love of the outdoors was born during cherished summers spent at Vagabond Ranch, a boys' ranch in Granby, Co. He spent a later summer spraying trees in Wyoming for the U.S Forest Service. His enjoyment of the outdoors continued with long walks in the Longwood Gardens meadow and along local wooded trails. Dave was a faithful reader of the NY Times and saved dozens of back issues in case he needed an elusive fact. Dave was well known for his knowledge of diners and diner food. Some of his favorite pastimes were quizzing his grandchildren on obscure subjects; driving his 2000 Honda CRV stick shift car; scrolling on his iPad, sharing sports statistics and trivia, telling corny Vaudeville jokes, playing doubles tennis, and collecting a wide assortment of "memorabilia" including matchbooks and swizzle sticks. His domestic endeavors include searching for the telltale recycling triangle on any container, and seeking the perfect Sunday doughnuts.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Dave is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth DeRosa and her husband, Michael; his son, David Myers and his wife, Laurie; his grandchildren, Emory DeRosa, Stella DeRosa, David Myers, Tyler Myers, and Caroline Myers; and his siblings, Jack Myers and Sally Myers. He also leaves behind a large, devoted extended family.

Dave was a cherished son, husband, father, father-in-law, pop-pop, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed and remembered as a truly good and decent man.

Dave will be privately laid to rest at Union Hill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Church of the Advent, with reception to follow. The Life Celebration will begin at 11:00a.m.
