Derrick Duwan Johnson Jr., age 19, of West Grove, Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2026. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was the beloved son of Tricia Lee.
From the very beginning, Derrick was a fighter. Born two months premature, he overcame challenges and milestones with a quiet strength that would remain a part of who he was throughout his life. As a young boy, he was quiet, kind, independent, and protective of those he loved. His mother was his rock, and Derrick loved her dearly.
Derrick was educated in both the Phoenixville and Avon Grove school districts and was a 2025 graduate of Avon Grove High School. He persevered through challenging coursework, always keeping his eyes on his learning goals and working toward his future. After high school, Derrick worked overnight as a stocker at Wegmans in Malvern while pursuing his real estate certification. He was highly regarded by his supervisors and colleagues as a hardworking, dependable, and genuinely kind person.
In his spare time, Derrick enjoyed learning about and driving cars, especially BMWs and Audis. He also enjoyed snowboarding in various mountains and loved basketball, with the Boston Celtics being his favorite team. Above all, Derrick loved his family, his friends, and his beloved dog, King.
Derrick will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, humility, quiet strength, and genuine kindness. He was not one to seek attention or be at the center of a room; instead, he had a quiet presence that left an impression on the people around him. His independence, loyalty, and protective nature reflected the deep love he had for his family and those closest to him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, classmates, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although his life was far too short, Derrick’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the countless memories he leaves behind.
In addition to his mother, Derrick is survived by his sister, Tyanna Walker; his great-grandmother, Wanda Jones; his grandparents, Shirley Jones and Norman Lee; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and numerous close friends. He was predeceased by his Nana, Katie Lee.
You are invited to visit with Derrick’s family and friends from 10:00–11:00 AM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Christian Life Center, 125 Saginaw Road, Lincoln University, PA 19352.
