It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Janet Lee MacDonna (née St. Amand) from Dover, DE. Janet will be remembered for her radiant smile, warmth, intelligence, and generous spirit.

Janet was born on March 23, 1984 in Wilmington, DE and passed away on May 10, 2026 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, after a courageous 16-month battle with Melanoma. She was a dedicated student whose compassion and determination guided her throughout her life and career. Janet graduated from Padua Academy in 2002, earned her degree in Animal Sciences from University of Delaware in 2006, and fulfilled her dream of becoming a veterinarian by graduating from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Janet proudly served as a Public Health Veterinarian for the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service and also worked as a Relief Small Animal Veterinarian at Loving Touch Animal Clinic in Christiana, DE where she was known for her kindness, dedication, and deep love for animals.

Janet carried forward the values of kindness, resilience, and a deep care for others throughout her life and career. She was deeply loved by her family and cherished the bonds she shared with them. Janet loved adventures, traveling, and making the most out of life. Janet spent many yearly vacations in Vermont at her family’s cabin and going to the beach each year with her spouse’s family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband including trips to Alaska, Northern California, Iceland, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Florida. Janet was a devoted friend who loved to host game nights, dinners and parties at her home. She also enjoyed joining friends and family for dinners or drinks at both her favorite places or trying out new ones.

After her diagnosis, Janet was determined to complete her bucket list which included a trip to Paris, enjoying deep dish pizza in Chicago, eating at a Michelin Star restaurant, a visit to the Natural History Museum in New York City and a Hot Air Balloon Ride.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, David MacDonna IV, parents Emile Rosaire St. Amand and Nancy Lee St. Amand (née Reynier), and her brother, Douglas Lee St. Amand (partner: Elizabeth Miller), along with extended family and her two adoring malamute doggos, Úlfur and Arya. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gerard Rosairio St. Amand, Laura St. Amand (née Lanoue), Paul Lee Reynier and Ruth Reynier (née Kinback) and two original malamutes, Dakota and the Baja.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, she will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, giving heart and the love and light she gave so freely to those around her.

Janet’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Bellevue State Park, 800 Carr Road, Wilmington, DE 19809, Pavilion 1.
