Emily born on April 22, 1987
Both died on April 25, 2024

Heaven has two new beautiful and well-dressed angels, Judy and Emily Hanks, who lit up our lives and will be tremendously missed by all. They were the type of women who commanded attention - statuesque, confident, and gregarious. Judy and Emily had a special bond and shared so much in life. Both had outgoing personalities, keen interest in education and leading others, and true passion for life. Their love for travel, tennis, dogs, entertaining, decorating, and more, were well-known and appreciated by those who loved them. From Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois to Michigan - wherever Judy and Emily went, fun times and treasured memories were sure to follow. It was in Connecticut that Judy first worked as a teacher and met her very close friends of over 50 years. Her journey continued to Pennsylvania, where Emily was born, cared for, and educated by the best teacher a young girl could ever have. Emily's college years in Oxford, OH set the stage for her professional success and introduced her to dear friends who loved her, admired her, and remained at her side throughout it all. In Chicago, Emily made more close friends and entered the corporate world, honing strong leadership skills and continuously lifting up and inspiring young women to develop their careers and navigate their own paths. Michigan provided respite for them both from their busy lives, with many happy memories spent on the waterfront and with family. By their sides through it all were Max and Mav, Emily's beloved Boston Terriers, who provided joy, comfort, and laughter in their fashionable Halloween costumes dressed as tacos, mailmen, and lobster catchers, to name a few.

Judy was born in Bethlehem, PA. Her love of learning and excellence was evident early, as she graduated at the top of her class from Liberty High School. She went on to earn her BA in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her MA in education from Fairfield University.
She taught for more than a decade in the Greenwich, Connecticut public school district.  She later taught students with special needs in the Downingtown Area School District in Pennsylvania. Upon retirement, Judy kept active with gardening, decorating, travel, family vacations in Michigan, and caring for Emily and her dogs.

Emily attended local schools in Kennett Square, PA, before graduating from Miami University of Ohio with a BS in accounting and finance and minor in political science. She was president of the Alpha XI Delta women's fraternity, a member of the Pi Sigma Epsilon professional fraternity, and a student of the elite Buck Rodgers Leadership Program. Emily started her career at Ernst & Young and for the last 10 years was employed at CNA Insurance. Most recently, she served as a Consulting Director with the company's Enterprise Risk Management team. In true Emily fashion, she went above and beyond, taking on additional leadership roles in CNA's employee resource group Women Impacting Leadership.

Both Judy and Emily will be sadly missed by their many friends and family members including Barbara and Rick Brown, Doug and Lesley Gier with sons Griffin and Hudson, and Steve and Susan Skibo with son Benjamin. Judy and Emily were predeceased by their maternal parents and grandparents, Stephen and Mary (Hudak) Skibo.
