Patricia E. Briley, 93 of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the wife of the late Franklin R. Briley, with whom she shared 28 years of marriage. She was born in Yorklyn, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Marie (Toomey) Lafferty.
Patricia graduated from Conrad High School in Yorklyn, Delaware. She worked for many years in Kennett Consolidated High School in the cafeteria. She enjoyed cooking and writing poetry, and had her poems published in two World Famous Poem books. She was also mentioned in the Book of Kennett Square for giving birth to a son in the Blizzard of 1958. She loved watching her favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
Patricia was known as Mom or Mommom to almost all who knew her. She loved to give hugs and let you know she loved you. Her family was her life. She will be greatly missed and remembered for being a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Jeffery Briley (Sherri) of West Grove and daughter, Sharon Cosgrove (Patrick) of Kennett Square. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephen Briley Jr. (Sara), Megan Rocha (Jugi), Tina Hager, Christine Eisenhart (Jared), PJ Cosgrove (Rachel), and Adrienne Hager; ten great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin R. Briley; three sons, Franklin R. Briley Jr., Bruce J. Briley, and Stephen L. Briley; three brothers, William Lafferty, Jacob Lafferty, and Hugh Lafferty; and one sister, Rosemarie Hoosier.
You are invited to visit with Patricia's family and friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 212 Meredith Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Her Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery, 424 North Union Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.
