Stephen Aloysius McEvoy, 79, went to be with His Lord and Savior on May 29, 2025, at The Village at Life Quest in Quakertown, PA. He was a 47-year resident of Westtown Township, Chester County.
Steve was born on April 16th, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, to Stephen Aloysius and Catherine Inez (Schroeder) McEvoy. Steve was the only offspring from that late-in-life marriage and he had several much older siblings from prior unions, who are all deceased, including Inez (Weeks) Johnson; William Weeks; Robert McEvoy; Brother Gilbert McEvoy, OFM; Mildred (McEvoy) Tynan; Eleanor (McEvoy) Pinder; William McEvoy; and James McEvoy.
Steve was raised in Queens, New York, and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. He received a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University, and an MS Degree in Transportation Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of NYU.
He married the late Marguerite Edith Wheaton (affectionately known as Marge) on August 26, 1967, in Queens, New York, and they were married for 56 years until Marge’s passing on July 31, 2024.
Steve had a long, varied and enjoyable career in the rail transportation industry. He started on the New Haven and Penn Central Railroads as a Signal Tower Operator and Train Director. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he worked for the Long Island Rail Road as a Transportation Engineer.
In 1977, Steve and Marge left New York and relocated to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he worked for engineering firms specializing in railroads and transit systems. Steve retired in 2013 as a Vice President of SYSTRA Consulting Inc., which provides professional services to railroads and transit systems throughout the United States. Steve subsequently worked over ten years part-time for AECOM as a Senior Signal & Rail Operations Engineer.
Steve enjoyed playing tennis, flying private aircraft, and exploring the world with Marge. He was a professing Christian and an active member of Trinity Assembly of God Church and then Goshen Baptist Church, both in West Chester, PA.
Steve is survived by his two children and their spouses, Lisa (McEvoy) and Richard (Joe) Elvin, and Brian and Tracy McEvoy; four grandchildren – Charissa Elvin, Noel Elvin, Randall Elvin, and Nolan McEvoy; one great grandchild – Iris Joy Betz; and nephews and nieces, Ken Peterson, Elizabeth Peterson, Elmer Flores, and Josie Hernandez-Jonte, and their offspring.
Once asked about life’s priorities, Steve said praising God and showing His Love (admitting many failures), family, friends, work (trains, of course), traveling and especially cruising. He considered himself very blessed of God and was faithful in letting all he encountered know.
All are welcome to view Steve on Friday, June 6th, from 11:00am~12:00pm, at Goshen Baptist Church, 1451 W. Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. A funeral service will begin at 12:00pm, followed by a graveside service at Green Mount Cemetery, 117 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA 19382.
All arrangements are made by Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, Ltd. 135 W. Pumping Station Road, Quakertown, PA 18951. (215-536-3343)
