Charles Allan Grieco, 81, of Newark, Delaware, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2023.  He was surrounded by his loving family throughout the week leading up to his passing.  He was the beloved husband of Linda Ford Grieco, with whom he shared 35 years of marriage.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Louis Grieco and Alva Grieco (Jones).  He attended Cranford High School and graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.  He was a life insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual until his retirement in 2006.  Charlie took great care to educate each of his clients.  His focus was always on what was best for them more than the advancement of his career.

Living the majority of his life in Delaware, he restored 4 different homes over the course of his life.  While all of them had special stories, the two that meant the most were the Dewey beach house on Carolina Street and his home on Little Baltimore Road where he and Linda have lived for the past 26 years.  The Little Baltimore residence and barn, affectionately known as “Ravin’ Manor” was home to 16 years of Zydeco dance parties, a wedding, a family reunion, a high school reunion, a pig roast, numerous baby and engagement showers, and other fun events too numerous to count. Charlie was the ultimate party man.  He never wanted to miss a gathering.

Charlie loved people, cars, the beach, music, dancing, maps, home projects, his dogs, and all food with the exception of pate.  Nothing mattered more to him than being with his family.  The beach was his favorite place.  He also enjoyed entering his classic cars in various car shows each year.  His brother, Tom, his son Matthew, and his grandson, Wilson were often part of the antique car experience.

Everyone loved Charlie.  Even as his health failed and his patience wore a little thin, he was still “part of the party”.  He had an opinion about everything and was stubborn as a mule, but he was also the kindest person you’d ever meet.  And as much as everyone loved him, he too loved those around him.  If someone new joined the party, he wanted to get to know them.  He was genuine and real.  Though Charlie is an identical twin and he and Tom shared a womb and a brain, there will never be another human quite as wonderful as Charlie Grieco.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Matthew Grieco (Sherry); his daughter, Susan Grieco; six grandchildren, Jordan, Sydney, Sabrina, Wilson, Logan, and Peyton;  his brother, Tom (Robin); his niece, Kate Jezyk (Matt), and nephews, Steve (Nicoline), Sam (Christi), and Wesley (Heather).  He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws who loved him as their own.

You are invited to visit with Charlie’s family and friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 401 North Union Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will follow at 12:00 noon.
