Martin Jeffrey Knox was born in Burlington, Vermont, August 9, 1970. Baptized at St. John’s in the Mountain, Stowe, Vt, by The Rev. Bland Tucker, with water from the River Jordan. Martin passed to glory on April 16, 2020, after long suffering with a brain cancer. He is survived by his former wife Rebekah, mother Emily Knox of Wilmington, DE, birth father, James, and adopted father Benjamin; Brother Andrew Knox of Valencia, PA, nieces Sabrina and Ashlin, and nephew, River; Uncle and Godfather, Jeffrey Brown, Wilmington, DE; Uncle Gregory Brown, Plymouth, MA.
A graduate of Unionville High School, PA, class of 1988; Fine arts Major, University of Hartford, BA 1991. He then studied with sculptor, Michael Singer of Vermont for a year, working on the Denver Airport Atrium Garden, which inspired Martin to do art for the common man, becoming a Landscape Architect, graduating University of Pennsylvania, MA 1997, becoming a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
A gifted artist in many mediums at a young, his professional career started as an art apprentice during his college summers, 1988 and 1989, with King Features Syndicate Division of the Hearst Corporation. Project Manager at Morgan Wheelock Inc., Somerville, MA; Project Manager at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Cambridge, MA; Project Landscape Architect, BL Companies, Meriden, CT; Senior Landscape Architect and Project Manager, TO Design LLC, New Britain, CT; Landscape Architect and Project Manager, Collective Efforts, LLC, Pittsburgh, PA; an adjunct professor at Chatham University, Pittsburgh, PA. He was Leeds Certified, RLA, Leed AP, early in his career, and one of his first projects was a new environmentally friendly parking lot at TF Green International Airport the RI State Airport.
