Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Harris, age 100, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania passed away on December 15, 2020 at Twin Pines Nursing Home in West Grove, PA. She was the wife of the late Raymond G. “Archie” Harris, who died in 2001 and with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Toughkenamon, PA she was a daughter of the late Joseph Ross and Dorcas Richardson Ross. Betsy moved to the Village of London Grove at the age of 3 and lived there the next 97 years of her life.
Betsy and her husband Archie owned and operated “Archies Luncheonette” deli and gas stop in the village of London Grove for most of her life, which has been open since Dec 17, 1950. Her son and his wife run the business to this day. In addition to operating the store with her husband Archie, she worked for 20 years at the MGA Canary in Kennett Square retiring in 1984 and then continued to run “Archie’s” until 2007.
Betsy loved spending time at home and dedicated her life to working and providing for her family. She thoroughly enjoyed conversing with folks, who would stop in the store for lunch and developed life-long friendships with many of them. In her younger years she would gather with her three sisters to play music, sing, and play harmonica.
Survivors include her two sons, Gerald Harris and his wife Patricia and Ronald Harris and his wife Valerie, of the Village of London Grove. Loving Grandmother of Jerry, Ronnie (Elaina), Brian, Philip (Amanda), and Jonathan (Darlene) and three great-granddaughters Maya, Emerson, and Hallie.
You are invited to visit with Betsy’s family from 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent 401 N. Union St. Kennett Square, PA 19348. Due to COVID, guests will be welcomed 15 people at a time (facemasks required) and her funeral service will be held privately. Interment will be in London Grove Friends Cemetery.
